Innovative drug delivery technology
Technology plays an expanding role in the overall strategy for improving the patient health outcomes. Novel packaging and delivery device technology can enable novel medications that would not otherwise be feasible, reduce drug waste, improve patient ease of use and compliance. These important benefits further drive advantages to the pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturer, such as competitive differentiation and brand loyalty.
A pre-engineered packaging and device platform based approach to developing drug/device combination products provides pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers, early stage drug development innovators and others with accelerated development timeframes, reduced risk and product life extension opportunities. Our ZTECH-L™ and ZTECH-P™ delivery platforms are comprised of an integrated set of technologies to package and deliver drugs, biopharmaceuticals, biologics and botanicals in liquid or powder form. Platform technologies include unit dose blisters, dispensing nozzles, dispenser devices and form fill seal production systems for ophthalmic, nasal, nose to brain, sublingual and otic product applications.
ZTECH-L™ Drug Delivery Platform
The ZTECH-L™ Drug Delivery Platform is designed to package and deliver LIQUID drugs, biopharmaceuticals, biologics and botanicals. ZTECH-L™ delivery devices configured for ophthalmic, intranasal (system), nose to brain, sublingual, optic and animal care applications are available. With proprietary nozzle dispensing technology, ZTECH-L™ dispensers provide precise, efficient and safe dosing of liquids across a wide range of volumes and fluidic properties. Our primary containers are unit dose, form fill seal blisters comprised of a pharmaceutical grade multi-layer thin film laminate system.
Our laminates incorporate an aluminum core layer encased in high purity biocompatible polymers providing exceptional barrier properties against oxygen, water vapor, light and microbial incursions. The unit dose blister primary container system provides long term, shelf stability to the drug product contents. Each blister contains an internal micro-molded nozzle comprised of pharmaceutical grade, implantable polymer. Nozzles are engineered to control the dispense characteristics of each dose and are calibrated for fluidic properties of the drug product to deliver the droplet size/droplet distribution, spray plume geometry and deliver dosed volume for each dose.
Key capabilities of the ZTECH-L™ Delivery Platform include:
- Ophthalmic, intranasal, nose to brain, sublingual/buccal, optic and animal care delivery devices in mono-dose and multi-dose configurations
- Form Fill Seal unit dose blister production technology commercially scalable to > 1MM doses/shift/line
- Blister geometries ranging from 5 µL to 4 mL available
- Supports non-sterile or sterile filling processes for preservative free formulations
- Primary container laminates provide exceptional barrier properties to drug contents
- Metal free fluid delivery path
- Single use fluid delivery nozzle eliminates risk of microbial contamination of the dispensed dose
- Fluid delivery nozzles configurable for plume geometries ranging from droplets to aerosolized spray for a wide range of fluidic properties
- Efficient unit dose blister packaging reduces drug waste, environmental impact and cost
- Tamper resistant packaging
